If you are ready to kick (literally) your exercise routine up a notch try cardio kickboxing,
the popular mash-up workout that mixes boxing and martial arts moves with aerobics.
This class oozes with energy. A one hour workout includes a warmup and standing stretches moving into boxing punches, kicks and calisthenics type moves to get your heart rate up and torch some calories. Finishing off with some floor exercises for back, abdominals and then a stretch to round out the workout.
This workout is guaranteed to get your heart pumping and your clothes sweaty. As your breathing increases, so will the rate at which your blood flows to your muscles, delivering much-needed oxygen. All of the jumping, kicking, jabs and uppercuts you do during the class will also boost your power and overall endurance.
Keeping your immune system primed for battle can help ward off health risks like diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.
Not many workouts out there engage the core muscles like cardio kickboxing. The rotation of the torso required is unique to combat sports and you will find that your core will be activated the whole time in order to stabilize through the punches and kicks.
No worries if you are a beginner. This is a great workout for all levels and modifications can be made especially to the kicks for those with injuries or other muscles imbalances.
Other major muscles groups engaged are those of the legs for when you are kicking you use the muscles of your standing leg and core to stay balanced.
Also keep in mind your coordination will improve as your instructor takes your through a series of punching and kicking combinations.....jab, hook, upper cut, cross...etc.
There is no contact in cardio kickboxing however this workout will empower you as you learn how to property throw a punch and front kick.
Everyone who takes a cardio kickboxing class is hooked (no pun intended)!!
